Cypriot consumers stay until the last minute for their Easter shopping according to the chairman of Pancypriot Supermarkets Association, Andreas Hadjiadamou. He told CNA that the crowd in supermarkets is expected to peak on Good Friday and Holy Saturday.
“Little by little, people started coming down to the market, like every Easter. As usual, it will peak today, more tomorrow and Saturday. It always happens like this, it is typical of Cypriots to wait for the last days, regarding the Easter celebration”, he noted.
Mr. Hadjiadamou noted that the Cypriot consumer makes sure that nothing to be missed from the festive table, regardless of any prevailing conditions, and this is seen through time.
Asked if to compare the density at the supermarkets to date is like previous years, he said it was too early to tell, “but we think with the experience we have that traffic will be at least on par with last year.” “It seems that every year we are at least at the levels of the previous year, while many times it is even better,” he noted.
Answering a question about the festive opening hours of the supermarkets, Mr. Hadjiadamou said that there will be supermarkets that will be open until late Saturday afternoon, to serve the consumer public, while all supermarkets will be closed on Easter Sunday and Monday.
