A new dust episode drifting in from North Africa is expected to affect air quality islandwide starting midday today, according to the Meteorology Department.
In a statement issued this morning, officials warned that fine dust particles carried by prevailing winds will begin reaching the island around 12:00 pm, leading to a temporary increase in air pollution levels.
The dusty conditions are forecast to persist until Friday at noon. Authorities advised the public — particularly individuals with respiratory issues — to take precautions during this period.
Health officials recommend limiting outdoor activities during peak dust hours, keeping windows closed, and taking other measures to minimize exposure as the dust cloud moves through the region.
