Ekinci “Inspections vital at every stage of construction”


 

The Head of the Union of the Chambers of Cyprus Turkish Engineers and Architects (KTMMOB) Abdullah Ekinci, pointed to the importance of inspections and control during every stage of the construction of buildings.
Issuing a written statement on the damages caused in the country by the latest heavy rains, Ekinci stated that the damages caused were not natural incidents but incidents caused due to negligence of human activities.
Ekinci added that preventing floods was possible with land management approaches and flood risk assessments (FRA).
Referring to the landslides that occurred at a construction site, due to excavation work on a basement, on the Şht. Kemal Selim Road in Girne (Kyrenia), following the excessive downpours, Ekinci said that board members and Geotechnical Committee members from the Chamber of Civil Engineers held on-the-spot inspections.
He said that the incident had revealed the importance of building inspections.
Ekinci reminded of the importance of control and inspections during each process of construction for the completion of buildings safely and durably and in line with the set regulations.
It is mandatory to implement building inspections within the framework of the Municipalities Law, the Head of the Chamber Abdullah Ekinci is cited as saying.
