Peer bullying, which has recently increased at schools, has begun to pose a serious threat.
A video of a student carrying a chain around another student’s neck at the Bayraktar Secondary School in Lefkoşa (Nicosia) last week circulated on social media while another disturbing incident took place in Gazimağusa (Famagusta).
Three Canbulat Secondary School female students between the ages of 13 and 15, assaulted another female student in an empty building outside of school over a ‘boyfriend’ and recorded these disturbing moments on video.
After the images circulated on social media, the police pressed charges against the female students who were involved in the incident. The students were then released. The Ministry of Education initiated a disciplinary investigation against the students involved in the incident.
