A fire that broke out on the north part of a picnic area between Yenirerenköy ( Yalusa) and Dipkarpaz ( Rizokarpaso) at around 11 am today has been put out. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
According to a police report and local sources, flames from the fire were brought under control following efforts by the police fire department, teams from the Forestry Department, locals and with the aid of construction equipment from the municipality in the region.
Extinguishing and cooling efforts are being carried out by teams from the ground and a helicopter from the air.
Some pine trees and scrub fields were burned due to the fire.
