It has been reported that dry grass, garbage, and tire wastes have surrounded the Lefkoşa (Nicosia), Yenişehir (Neapoli), Arasta area, and Haspolat (Mia Milia) transformer stations of the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority. The possibility of fire is more common especially when hot weather is effective.
According to the Diyalog newspaper, officials of the authority have not taken any measures to clean the weed surrounding the power distribution units.
The distribution unit in Haspolat, which provides electricity to a large part of Lefkoşa (Nicosia), and the Lefkoşa Industrial Zone area are surrounded by dry grass.
The risk of fire is at a maximum level due to the transformer stations being neglected and measures not been taken.
Tires piled up next to the Haspolat switchyard also increase the risk of danger.
If dry grass burns, the transformer centre will become unusable and all facilities in the industrial zone will be at high risk, it has been reported.
A similar risk is also reported for the Arasta region of Lefkoşa (Nicosia). Local tradesmen at the Arasta transformer centre are also worried and feel unsafe due to the flammable items in the surrounding area not being removed
