Fotis FOTIOU dies in traffic accident in North Cyprus.

A police statement said that a tragic accident took place after driver of BBB 971 registered vehicle, Greek Cypriot Fotis FOTIOU (M-79) was heading towards the Balalan Circle (Between Büyükkonuk Circle and Balalan Circle) on the Büyükkonuk (Komi Kebir) and Kaplıca (Davlos) main road, before making a right turn without checking for other vehicles, as driver of TPB 171 registered vehicle (a bus) Hakan ASLAN (M-62) who was also heading in the same direction, carelessly overtook vehicles at an intersection crashing into the right middle part of FOTIOU’s vehicle at around 1:30 p.m. on May 2, 2024.

Driver of BBB 971, Fotis FOTİOU who was seriously injured following the accident, was rushed to the Famagusta State Hospital but could not be saved despite all efforts.

Julia FOTIOU, who was a passenger in the BBB 971 registered vehicle, was also taken to the Famagusta State Hospital and is being kept under observation. The bus driver Hakan ASLAN has been arrested and an investigation is ongoing.
