Heavy thunderstorms expected to hit Cyprus on Sunday

Heavy thunderstorms are expected to impact Cyprus throughout Sunday, the Meteorology Department has warned.
In a yellow weather alert issued by the department said the unstable weather system that began on Saturday night is forecast to continue until 17:00.
Isolated but intense thunderstorms will develop at intervals, initially affecting the west and north of the island before gradually spreading to other areas. Hail is also expected during the storms, while surface winds may become variable and strengthen.
Rainfall rates are predicted to range between 35 and 55 millimetres per hour, the department said, urging the public to remain cautious due to potential hazardous conditions.
