Mass fish death in dried up Kanlıköy dam!

It has been reported that the Kanlıköy Dam, which is used for agricultural irrigation activities in North Cyprus, has completely dried out, and hundreds of fish have died.
The uncontrolled water withdrawal in the dam, which has a total water capacity of 730 thousand 294 m3, has led to the death of hundreds of fish in the dam.
According to the Bağımsız News report, citizens were horrified to see the dead fish in the dried dam.

Speaking to Bağımsız News, the head of the Kanlıköy village, Gülen Kanlıkılıç said that the Kanlıköy Dam was used to provide water service to the villagers. Kanlıkılıç said that their aim was to have the fish removed from the dam beforehand, but it was too late as they all died.

“We are saddened to see that all fish are dead,” Kanlıkılıç said adding that they could not foresee that the water would recede so quickly due to the extreme heat.

Stating that the valves in the dam were closed beforehand, Kanlıkılıç said that “The fish were supposed to be removed from the dam 3-5 days ago, but due to the extreme heat, the water suddenly receded. We couldn’t predict that the fish in the dam would die. The water in the dam dried out earlier than we thought. The Water wasn’t being used as we had the valves closed beforehand. We thought that the fish will live 2-3 more days, but unfortunately, the water in the dam evaporated due to the extreme heat. We should have known that the water was bound to evaporate at 50 degrees Celsius… Unfortunately, we were wrong.”

Kanlıkılıç said that efforts are being made to disinfect the dam due to the bad smell of dead fish.
