Mother’s Day to be celebrated this Sunday, May 12

Every year, the second Sunday of May is celebrated as Mother’s Day in North Cyprus as in many countries around the world. This year Mother’s Day will be celebrated this Sunday, May 12.

Places like shoe shops, boutiques, florists, etc are really busy at the moment, as many are buying gifts for their mothers.

The origin of this day, dedicated to mothers, who are described as the most important asset in the world, dates back to 1908.

Mother’s Day celebration is linked with a lady named Anna Jarvis from Grafton, West Virginia. In 1908 she established this day remembering her own mother. After the death of her own mother, she worked hard to set a day for her and all mothers in the world.

In 1914, the second Sunday of May was declared as Mother’s Day and a public holiday in the USA, with the decree issued by US President Woodraw Wilson. Later, many countries around the world began to celebrate this date as Mother’s Day.

There are other dates set in other countries such as the UK, for Mother’s Day, which is celebrated to honor and commemorate mothers.
