Tatar holds inspections at Metehan crossing point

Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar held inspections at the Metehan (Ayios Demetios) checkpoint due to problems of heavy traffic.

Inspections were carried out the other day at the Metehan (Ayios Demetios) border in Lefkoşa (Nicosia) in order to find solutions on what needs to be done to speed up vehicle crossings. Tatar received detailed information from the head of North Cyprus Police General Directorate Kasım Kuni, yesterday following inspections.

Kuni stated that work is under way in order to reduce the heavy traffic at the Metehan checkpoint and speed up immigration procedures. He said that work has been initiated to widen the existing road for crossings and to improve the vehicle parking area.
Despite all precautions taken by the North Cyprus Police General Directorate, traffic congestion is still being experienced at the Metehan checkpoint and citizens are being victimised due to long queues caused by the build up of vehicles due to the single lane implemented at the South Cyprus checkpoint.
