Term of office of third member of CMP ended

The term of office of the third member of the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP), Paul Henry Arni, has ended.

In a press conference held to mark the end of his term, Arni said, “We have the second highest success rate in the world in terms of finding missing persons, with 51.5%.”

The third member of the Committee on Missing Persons, Paul Henry Arni, held a press conference on Thursday at the Committee on Missing Persons Headquarters in the buffer zone to mark the end of his term.

Arni, who said that his 10.5-year term has ended, stated that the success achieved in missing search efforts in Cyprus during this period was the second best success in the world after the 75% success rate of the former Yugoslavia.

He noted that 1,033 of the 2,200 missing persons were found and handed over to their families, and that 571 of them were found during his 10.5-year term, which corresponds to a success rate of 51.5%.

Stating that 950 missing persons from both communities were being searched for, Arni added that one of the five priorities he set when he took office in 2013 was the management of the committee’s operations.

Arni also said that nothing can be achieved without the political will of the leaders, and that the low success rate in some countries was not due to a lack of money, but to a lack of political will.
