TRNC’s name change on the agenda!

Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar said that changing the name “Northern”, from the ‘Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ (TRNC) would be an important initiative to show that there is now a Turkish state in Cyprus.
Tatar also noted that a Constitutional amendment was required for the State’s name change adding that the name change would likely be debated.
Tatar answered questions on a TV program he attended in Ankara, Türkiye.
Stating that there is a Turkish state in Cyprus and that it has further developed and strengthened with the full support of the Republic of Türkiye, he said that they have taken their place as an observer member of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
Tatar added that negotiations for a federal solution have been going on for years, in Cyprus. Despite the Greek Cypriot side objecting to all solution proposals, the Turkish Cypriot people have always been treated unfairly.
Tatar said that from now on the conditions for a solution in Cyprus should be formed on the basis of equality.
Stating that he was saddened to hear the calls, endlessly being made, for a ‘federal solution’ in Cyprus when the facts are clear, Tatar reiterated that there can only be a solution based on the cooperation of two states in Cyprus. This new policy has been explained to all relevant parties and acknowledged by all segments of society, as read in his report.
Stating that the UN Security Council should understand that discussing the same issues for the last 50 years has not yielded results and should put forward new parameters, Tatar pointed to the importance of discussions being held on the removal of the name “Northern”.
