The Cyprus Turkish Nurses and Midwives Union (KTHES) are carrying out a 4-hour warning strike today and tomorrow on the injustice being committed among public employees.
There will be no overtime work over the festive Bayram holidays, it has been reported.
Head of KTHES İbrahim Özgöçmen who issued a press statement on the issue said that the government granted administrative leave to public employees on the eve of the Bayram holiday, but ignored shift-working midwives and nurses arguing that no arrangement was made to their working hours.
Özgöçmen stated that it was not possible for all public health workers working on a 24-hour service basis to be on leave on the eve of the Bayram holiday. While a public employee having a break ahead of the Bayram holiday is being called ‘administrative leave, midwives and nurses have been disregarded and are not being entitled to leave or overtime payment. This is an injustice, Özgöçmen is cited as saying.
