Turkish Cypriot atists works exhibited Limassol


 

The Exhibition with the works of Turkish Cypriot artists in the city of Limassol, organized by the New Cyprus Association,was concluded on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

The opening of the exhibition at the Municipal University Library of Limassol on October 24, gave the art-loving public the opportunity to get to know the artistic creation of Turkish Cypriot artists – 6 painters and 1 ceramist.

The whole event and the gathering of a large number of visitors contributed significantly to the festive nature of the event and its significant contribution to the cultural events of Cyprus. It was the first time that works by Turkish Cypriot artists were presented in Limassol after 1974.

The event was attended by the Turkish Cypriot artists as well as members of their families, the Mayor of Limassol Mr. Nikos Nicolaides, Dr. Nadia Anaxagorou, cultural manager of the Municipality of Limassol as well as many Greek Cypriots, among them representatives of political parties and well-known politicians and artists such as the former Minister of Finance Mr. Kikis Kazamias and the engraver Mr. Hambis Tsagaris.

In his greeting, the Mayor, Mr. Nikos Nicolaides, expressed the hope that this event will contribute to the vision of a reunited Cyprus.
In her moving speech Mrs. Ruzen Atakan, as a representative of the Turkish Cypriot artists, underlined the importance of such bi-communal events as a means of maintaining hope for the reunification of Cyprus. As he pointed out, such events are an important contribution to strengthening cooperation, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence among all Cypriots. She especially thanked the New Cyprus Association for organizing the Exhibition as well as the Mayor of Limassol, who placed it under his auspices and providing the Municipal University Library exhibition space for hosting it.


The TC artist Mr. Aşık Mene, had a pleasant surprise for the Mayor of Limassol and the attending public, announcing the donation of one of his works presented in the exhibition to the Municipality of Limassol. The painting will be exhibited in the permanent art exhibition space of the Municipality of Limassol. The Mayor, Mr. Nikos Nikolaidis, on behalf of the Municipality of Limassol, expressed his gratitude to the artist for his excellent initiative.
