Crossings at borders are down, arrivals from South decreased


 

According to calculations, nearly 20,000 entries were reported everyday from South to North in the first 4 months of 2024.

An average of 7,354 Turkish Cypriots cross the borders every day; 7,591 Greek Cypriots and 4,751 “foreigners” enter the North.

In the first four months of 2024, the number of Greek Cypriots and “foreigners” arriving via land borders, have decreased by 2.3% compared to the same period of the previous year, falling to 1 million 493,359.

However, when Turkish Cypriots are included in the calculation, the number of entries increases by 4.02%, reaching to 2 million 383,170. The number of Turkish Cypriot arrivals have increased by 16.7%, reaching 889,811.

Due to the depreciation of the TL against Euro, the number of Greek Cypriots rushing to the North side has decreased.

The number of crossings, which was 934,352 in 2023, has reduced by 1.7% to 918, 525.
