An amendment has been made to the Forestry Law.
Anyone responsible for burning more than one hectare of forest area will be fined a hundred times the minimum wage and a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
Following the decision published in the Official Gazette on Monday, anyone lighting a fire in a forest area or within a distance of up to a quarter mile from the forest and not extinguishing it properly, leaving a burning fire unattended, leaving a burning cigarette or a cigarette or any other kind of tobacco product that has not been put out properly and causing a fire in more than one hectare of land will be fined of up to 100 times the monthly gross minimum wage and sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
