Artichoke and citrus are in danger!

Damaged artichoke and citrus products in north Cyprus lately, have endangered production and trade.
It has been reported that the pest called Asian Citrus Psyllid causes the death of the trees it infects.
Technical support is being provided from Türkiye to combat the pest, which has a high risk of spreading through commercial channels.
In the statement made by the Development and Economic Cooperation Office (BSEC) of the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Lefkoşa (Nicosia), it was stated that the technical delegation from Türkiye carried out initiatives in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources against the pest.
In the statement, it was noted that epidemics may occur in the regions where the Asian Citrus Psyllid is present, due to the high egg-laying amount and short cycle of the pest.
The detection of the pest was confirmed following a study carried out on December 21-23 and initiatives are being taken to prepare a combat plan, especially biological control.
