The bent date palm tree which stands obliquely integrated with the St. George of the Latins church located in Gazimağusa is aging gracefully.
The trunk of the date palm tree that curved over time, was recently pruned.
Gazimağusa Initiative Activist Dr Okan Dağlı’s post is as follows:
“Conservation work will begin soon on the century-old date palm tree, the silhouette of the town which has integrated with the St. George of the Latins’ church, and is just one of the hundreds waiting to be listed. The trunk of our date palm tree which has curved day by day and is unable to carry its weight has been pruned with the help of teamwork. The tree has been pruned with the contributions of Gazimağusa Municipal employee Adem an expert at climbing bent pine trees in collaboration with the Tel-Za company which renovated the Canbulat Burcu Tomb. We thank everyone who contributed.”
