British High Commissioner to Cyprus Irfan Siddiq stated that the bases are not supporting Israel with weapons, or facilitating its operations.
Speaking to Yenidüzen, Siddiq refrained from providing information regarding rumours of American soldiers being stationed at the British bases.
Emphasizing that the UK has control over the British bases, Siddiq said “The bases are sovereign, and we have full control over these areas, which allow us the authority to do as we please.”
When questioned about the potential use of the bases by secret services, Siddiq refused to disclose operational details, asserting that they were very careful in movements to comply with obligations towards the Republic of Cyprus and within the framework of international law.
Irfan Siddiq also explained that they were providing humanitarian support to Gaza, however, asserting that the UK refrains from involving Cyprus in the Gaza conflict and any actions that could jeopardize international law.
