Police in Paphos are looking into a possible premeditated murder after the death of a 43-year-old man from Peyia on Wednesday night.
The victim, Stylianos Stylianou, was reportedly shot in the head during a family gathering at a Peyia home shortly before 11 p.m.
After hearing gunshots, neighbours called police. Officers arrived at the location and discovered the deceased inside the house.
According to preliminary investigations, a dispute broke out during the gathering, prompting the suspect, named as the victim’s sister’s 50-year-old husband, to reportedly shoot the victim with a hunting rifle.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene but later sought treatment at Paphos General Hospital for foot injuries and bruises. Police were notified and caught the suspect in the hospital on a court warrant.
According to reports, the suspect confessed to the crime when questioned. He is currently detained as inquiries by the Paphos Criminal Investigation Department (CID) continue.
