Harmancı presents suggestions regarding confidence-building measures (CBM) to Holguin

The Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) Mayor Mehmet Harmancı presented a letter to the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar containing his opinions and suggestions regarding the solution of the Cyprus problem.

Harmancı made a written statement about the meeting he had with Holguin yesterday.

According to the statement, Harmancı also pointed out that there is a need for confidence-building measures that can be implemented immediately and a new border checkpoint for vehicles in the eastern region of Lefkoşa (Nicosia).

He also reminded that in 2015, he and the Mayor of South Nicosia Municipality Constantinos Yiorkadjis had presented a joint request to the leaders of the period, revealing their common demand and will to open new checkpoints in Lefkoşa (Nicosia).

Harmancı, who also gave Holguin information about the Kanlıdere Project, stated that the project will build a bridge between the two communities.

Mayor Harmancı invited the UN to encourage the European Commission, which approved the project and allocated funding in 2018, to implement the project
