Works at Beyarmudu ( Pergamos)crossing point starts next week


Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that the problem at the Beyarmudu ( Pergamos) crossing point will be resolved in June.
He visited the Beyarmudu crossing point and received information about the feasibility of the Beyarmudu Border Crossing Improvement Project from the project committee chairman Durali Güçlüsoy.

The Chairman of the Border Gates Improvement Committee Durali Güçlüsoy, Director of the Department of Planning and Construction Oğuz Akçay, Mayor of Beyarmudu Municipality Bülent Bebek and some officials were also present during the visit.

Making a statement to the press after the visit, Beyarmudu Mayor Bülent Bebek stated that there have been great difficulties in mutual crossings due to the narrowness of the gate, and that they are very happy to see that the government is taking acting to rectify this problem.
Explaining that 1.4 million people use the Beyarmudu crossing point every year, Bebek said that once the improvements have been completed the number of people crossing will reach 2 million, thus benefiting the people in the region.

Üstel for his part pointed out that they have been working on the Beyarmudu crossing point for a long time with the committee they formed as the government and stated that their aim is to eliminate the congestion at the gate and facilitate entry and exit.

Üstel also said that they will start work as the Turkish Cypriot side next Monday, noting that their aim is to open the gate in June.
