Some political parties and unions reacted to the Turkish Cypriot Leader Ersin Tatar for rejecting the proposal for a tripartite meeting by the Personal envoy of the Secretary-General on Cyprus, María Ángela Holguín.
The Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Leader Tufan Erhürman harshly criticized Tatar. He demanded that Tatar leave his position as it is not acceptable for a leader to reject a dialogue between leaders that is under the supervision of the UN, preventing people from moving forward in the struggle for an equal international status.
Member of the Communal Democracy Party (TDP) Lawyer Mine Atlı, Responsible for Foreign Relations, called Tatar to the table and said, “You don’t have the luxury of pulling away and not attending the meeting like a child.”
The Turkish Cypriot Public Servants Union (KTAMS) and the Cyprus Turkish Teachers’ Union (KTÖS) also called for Tatar, who rejected the tripartite meeting, to resign. The two unions called on other unions, political parties, and chambers that have a responsibility for solution and peace to also show their reactions against Tatar.
