Cyprus Turkish Tourism and Travel Agencies Association (KITSAB) President Orhan Tolun said that more than 20 thousand tourists from the UK visited Cyprus in the past years, but that currently, this number has not exceeded 5 to 6 thousand.
Speaking to Bağımsız News, Tolun stated that the sector was seriously affected by the pandemic in 2019 and that it has only started to recover in 2023.
Tolun noted that there has been an increase in the number of tourists coming from Türkiye in the past 4 years, but a decrease has been experienced in the number of foreign tourists.
Orhan Tolun said that there was a time when more than 20 tour operators in the UK were working for North Cyprus, bringing more than 20 thousand tourists to the country, however, this has changed as the number of tourists from the UK has fallen to around 5 to 6 thousand.
Speaking of the decrease in the number of foreign tourists and the extraordinary increase in flight ticket prices, Tolun said that small hotels have all shut down and that the hotels that are still operating are the ones with casinos.
Pointing out that the overseas promotion of North Cyprus is insufficient; Tolun stated that our tourism sector is trying to survive with the advertisements made by the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye.
