Turkish Cypriot side approves newly appointed UN special envoy to Cyprus


 

Turkish Cypriot Leader Ersin Tatar approved the Representative candidate proposed by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Tatar delivered his approval to the UN Secretary-General Sunday evening.
According to information by the Presidency, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Permanent Representative of Colombia to the UN, has been appointed as the new Special Envoy to Cyprus by the UN Secretary-General.
In accordance with the agreement reached with the UN Secretary-General, the new Special Envoy will be appointed for a period not exceeding 6 months and Cuéllar’s task would be to investigate whether there is common ground between the two sides for a new negotiation process in Cyprus.
