Özersay: “Those committing crimes that require heavy penalty should be deprived of citizenship”

The People’s Party leader (HP) Kudret Özersay, stated that the citizenship laws in different countries around the world contain articles regulating the deprivation of citizenship of those who become citizens and commit crimes that will disturb the peace of the society.

“Those committing crimes that require heavy penalty should be deprived of citizenship,” he said.

Stating that the Citizenship Law regulates the deprivation of citizenship of those who later acquire TRNC citizenship in some cases by the decision of the Council of Ministers, Özersay said: “Takin examples from around the World, we also need a legal change with a decision by the Council of Ministers that will ensure convicted individuals to be deprived of citizenship especially those who later acquired TRNC citizenship, and has been convicted for an offense involving RAPE, ABUSE, HATE SPEECH, HATE CRIMES, INFAMOUS CRIMES, BREACH OF PEACE, and CIVIL DISTURBANCE.”
