Girne Municipality Theatre performs very first foreign language play


 

‘Girne Municipality Theatre’ has led the way in North Cyprus by performing plays with actors and directors coming from abroad who live in North Cyprus. The children’s play ‘Pippi Longstocking’, prepared in Russian following rehearsals in the past few weeks was watched by many as it attracted great interest. The play, which was performed at the Girne Municipality Chamber Theatre, was recorded as the first of the foreign language play that will continue next season.

AWARD-WINNER DIRECTOR ELYA GILMAN

The play was directed by Elya Gilman, who won the ‘Best Female Director’ award in 5 different categories at the Cannes World Film Festival in 2021 with her film ‘Sunflower’. The team’s next adult play “Deadly Meeting” will be staged on Sunday, June 25 at 5 pm, in Russian at the Girne Municipality Chamber Theatre. Award-winner director Elya Gilman will also direct 2 new plays to be staged by the Turkish team of Girne Municipality Theatre in the season ahead.
