Turkish Cypriot Leader Ersin Tatar has said that the joint organization of events by universities from Türkiye and Northern Cyprus contributes to the development of brotherly ties between the two countries.
Tatar was speaking at the opening ceremony of UniFest organized under the auspices of the Northern Cyprus Universities Federation and the Türkiye Universities Sports Federation.
Speaking at the opening, Tatar expressed his pleasure at attending the opening of the sports games, congratulated those involved in organizing the event, and wished success to the athletes participating in the competitions.
Tatar emphasized the significance of sports as a means of friendship, brotherhood, and solidarity, highlighting the importance of engaging in sports while pursuing education at universities.
He also mentioned the participation of foreign students studying at universities in the competitions, emphasizing that universities contribute to the promotion of the country and provide opportunities for young people to grow with universal values.
Tatar also spoke about the embargoes in the field of sports, emphasizing the importance of keeping politics out of sports.
Reflecting on his recent return from the 15th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Gambia, Tatar mentioned efforts to involve Turkish Cypriots in the Islamic Games.
